In early 2005 Cursive’s fans were sad when the cellist Gretta Cohn left the band, and were scared because the band announced that they were not seeking to replace her. Fortunately, Tim Kasher’s crew showed the world how they’re good with or without cello, launching Happy Hollow, which features significant five-piece horn arrangements and also, atypically, three songs sang by guitarist Ted Stevens (Mayday/ Lullaby For A Working Class)
Now, drummer Clint Schnase is saying goodbye to Cursive. He had been with them since Cursive started until now. His official departure was announced Sunday, October 21st 2007. The split seems to be amicable and he has been replaced by former Engine Down drummer, Cornbread Compton.
Engine Down was formed by ashes of bands as Sleepytime Trio, The Weak Link Breaks, and Bughummer, disbanding in 2005. After that, Compton began drumming for various bands including Biology, a side project of From Autumn to Ashes co-frontman Francis Mark.
Here’s the message from the band:
“Cursive regrets to announce the retirement of Clinton Frederick Schnase IV from the band. After years on the road Clint has decided to spend more time at home in Omaha, NE with his happy family of Whippets. Clint has been a lover of Whippets and worked with them for a number of years. He feels it is his spiritual calling, “You can see your future (or whatever) in their eyes.
We will miss touring, playing, laughing, crying, driving, flying, walking, talking and drinking with Clint and are making plans to love him forever. We wish the best for him and his Whippets and promise to visit him and hang out once a month until the end of time.Clint’s heavy sticks have been passed to the wonderful Cornbread Compton who has traveled and played with the band for the last 5 months. Clint responded enthusiastically when Cornbread accepted the drumming position with a loud, ‘F***ING SWEET, MAN.’ Well put.”
