Artists House Music

While searching YouTube for recording technique videos, I stumbled across an interview with Drew Malamud of Studio Plateau, a producer in Montreal. Impressed with the quality of the interview I saw that the user had submitted 200 interviews to YouTube, with a wide scope of topics surrounding the music industry, and I wanted to sit down to watch them all. I discovered they had a website that tied it all together, Artists House Music.

Artists House Music aims to be “your guide to a life in music.” They offer career advice for musicians, production tips for engineers, marketing tips for aspiring label executives, and that’s just a tip of what they cover. Articles, blogs, and transcriptions also accompany their heavy focus on interviews.

They’ve done a wonderful job of breaking down the scope of industry topics so you can easily pinpoint the subject matter you’re looking for. You can even watch the Artists House TV and watch a continuous stream of videos on a given topic.

The producers of Artists House Music have interviewed Jimmy Lovine of Interscope Records, Chris Blackwell of Island Records, Teo Macero sharing memories of producing for Miles Davis, and Vladimir Meller of Sony BMG… among hundreds of other faces in the industry. Pick a topic and you’ll likely find content to help you along.

If you’re starting a career in music, do yourself a favor and soak up the knowledge that Artists House Music is gathering. Create a profile and become active on their website and respond in their forum. Far too few people know about this gem on the internet.
